E-mail Print PDF

As we have finished our first thematic literary unit, focusing on the genre of horror and mystery, consider the similar themes and literary elements that tie them all together. Horror writing has been a literary tradition for centuries, and inspite of unpleasent content and disturbing imagery, it has also remained one of the more popular genres of literature.  Write a 1 paragraph response to the question, WHY DO PEOPLE ENJOY READING HORROR STORIES?

One Sentence Horror Story

E-mail Print PDF

It was a dark and stormy night.....

You've all heard this story before, or have you?

Horror stories often contain traditional elements of disturbing imagery, dark isolated settings, and twisted characters with serious flaws. Your quest today is to write a short horror story. The catch is, you are writing a VERY SHORT horror story... that is, a ONE SENTENCE horror story. So, where to begin?

Step 1: Check out THIS SITE and choose one or two of the literary elements (school appropriate) that you would like to use in your story.

Step 2: Check out SITE 1 and  SITE 2 that contain examples of one sentence stories.

Step 3: Write your ONE SENTENCE HORROR STORY. Now, remember- you only have one sentence to express your story, so be sure to carefully select the language, wording, imagery, and vocabulary that you will use in your story. Hint: Use STRONG verbs, and vivid adjectives. Leave your one sentence horror story as a comment.
